I have read Peter High’s book – “Implementing World Class IT Strategy” and highly recommend it for anyone in an IT leadership role. This interview he conducted with the Equinix CIO is also insightful for multiple reasons.
- I am not surprised that Information security and IT operations are his 2 highest priorities. I’d even call them an imperative given how dependent companies are now on their IT systems and the increased cyber threat environment we live in.
- How the CIO has positioned IT to be an enabler of the business. Frankly I think the IT organization is uniquely positioned to fulfill this role and can do this in multiple ways. For example by providing the insights (analytics/intelligence) for the business to make better decisions. Or supporting/enabling business transformation initiatives (how many inefficient processes are holding companies back from their true potential?).
